Clifton's Republic
The best spots are the ones that have different levels with different vibes, that way if one-floor sucks, you can simply take the stairs to the next. That’s exactly what Clifton Downtown LA offers – the locals say DTLA, so if you don’t want to stand out as a tourist, DTLA it is.
Clifton’s has a very cool club that is packed almost every single weekend. The line up is massive after 11 pm and is tough to get into.

The doormen here are friendly enough that if you’re a group of girls, you can get in with slipping them some money, or just by simply be persuasive – ok ladies now let’s get in formation! If you’re a group of dudes trying to get in, it’s best to just flash some money and ask to skip the line, if you’re cool enough, you’ll get in.
The first floor walking in is the dance floor that has a consistent flow of the top 40 hip-hop songs old school and new school. Right in the middle is a tree. It sounds weird… but it adds to the jungle theme they’re looking to achieve here. It stands out, and is beautiful.
The second floor has some tables, and booths for bottles or just chairs to sit in. Up here, you can over look the crowd while they dance away while you sit and sip your drink.
The third floor is a live jazz night. This is a favourite for anyone(including some members of the nok group) who love to dance to live music. This is the floor you go if you want to dance dance, and have someone swing you around while you pretend it’s 1950(but with equal rights for women, and no smoking). The atmosphere up here is light, energizing, and unique. It brings a true life to the club, and your night.
Dress code goes from that red dress that makes all the jaws drop to jeans and a tube top that makes you look trendy, classy and sexy all in one. For men, it’s the “I want to look good, but not too good just in case we end up at a bar” look which includes jeans, t-shirts and that nice jacket you bought and haven’t figured out where to go with it. Of course, if you’re planning on jazzing the night away, wear something more exciting that will allow your body to move with the music.
Drinks here are an average price for DTLA, roughly $9-14 and the bartenders are very friendly and good at what they do. This is the place to celebrate a 21st, get a table, and get lost in the music. The vibe is so chill, yet upscale enough that you feel important.
Expect some fights outside the club, because well, it’s Los Angeles. But, inside the club the security runs everything tight, and keeps it safe. The ratio is always made sure to be good with the amount of people that come here. This could be a good date place, a great way to pick someone up, or just have a night out with the homies.
Clifton’s will be seeing us again, you can bet on it.
