Woody – Toronto Review

Woody

Toronto is a city full of diversity, so naturally, pride weekend is a big deal. Canada was the first country to legalize gay marriage, so Toronto celebrates like no other place in the world. We found a historic gay bar to celebrate at, and it’s called: Woody’s.

Woody’s was built in 1989 and has been running the scene on College since. While it’s constantly busy, pride brings it to a whole other level.

On a regular basis, Woody’s has weekly drag queen performances, along with a decorating team that keeps the inside extra, and in theme with the seasons. You may or may not be shocked walking in here depending what level of glam you’re used to.

The staff here are friendly and open and while most of them are men, they are a lot of straight girlfriends that go to hang out, or, lesbians that drink the cheap beer and have a good time. The atmosphere is pretty non-judgemental but slightly stuck up if you don’t “fit in.”

Woody’s never charged a cover, except for pride, where there were too many people that wanted to go in  – didn’t matter though, everyone still wanted to go. This spot is either the perfect pre-game or to end the night kind of place. I couldn’t see anyone spending an entire 4 hours here, but hey, to each their own.
The drinks are at a reasonable price, and they have a good selection of drinks. They have a dance floor, however, it isn’t really a “dance” kind of spot. It’s more of a bar to find a hot boy for the weekend or to make out with someone – or simply chat.
Overall, it has a light and fun atmosphere and is probably the best place to go on College if you’re looking for a gay bar.

Woody’s could be seeing us next pride.
