Up & Down – NYC Review

Up & Down Review

Ready for an experience that you see on TV, or everyone’s insta stories and you’re like, “damn, that looks like a movie”? PERF because we have the spot that is going to blow your mind: Up & Down, New York City.

Where do celebs go to party, where can I go if I have a lot of money and want a guaranteed dope night? You go to the Butter Group’s, Up & Down(side note: the butter group is the 1OAK brand).

Hours

MondayTuesdayWednesdayThursdayFridaySaturdaySunday
Closed11pm – 4am11pm – 4am11pm – 4am11pm – 4am11pm – 4amClosed

Up & Down is a hip-hop, beautiful decorated 2-floor club that thrives. The door here is not afraid to see you put your money where your mouth is so you can expect $40+ cover charges if you’re a man, but entry is free for women – this is a place you’re going to want to know a promoter at. With or without a headliner at the club, it gets busy and it is better to show up earlier than later to make sure you can get into this place, you don’t want to miss it.

The vibes here are absolutely electric. You will see famous Instagrammers, celebrities and fashion icons displaying their iconic outfits. This is a place where you want to dress up, look sharp and not slack. Celebrities even have their album release parties here, and sometimes – sometimes – the bouncers will honor the tickets and let you in.

Depending on your budget and where your wallet is at, bottle service is a great option to get away from the scene, and next to the models that will most likely be here. Mr.Nokturnal has partied beside Teyana Taylor and shot his shot with a Victoria Secret model. With all of this being said, the drinks are on the pricey side with an average of $20 for a mixed drink.

On the weekends, Up & Down opens the bottom floor which has a different atmosphere altogether. When you want to get away from the club up top, you can go downstairs and find yourself in a much more chill, conversational room. The age demographic here is 30 and under ranging from wall street brokers, to Busta Rhymes buying a whole corner of the club for himself and his crew.

The behavior here is well handled – when you’re spending all that money, it means good behavior to remain inside the club, no one wants to be kicked out. If you’re looking for an iconic spot, and iconic photos to flex, they have 2 beautiful staircases as well as a polaroid wall for your aesthetic pleasure. The ratio here is 60:40 in favor of women, bringing in a good crowd that is making real moves in real life.

Did I mention Up & Down has hosted the exclusive Met Gala after party in the previous years? Yeah, this place will be seeing the Nockturnal Group as often as celebs show up – every week.

Jin Bo Law Skybar – London Review

Jin Bo Law

Wanting some more breathtaking views of London’s most iconic skyline including all the buildings? Head to their newest rooftop Jin Bo Law Skybar for just that.

JBL’s rooftop terrace includes views of Tower Bridge, the Shard, the Walkie Talkie, the Gherkin and more. The interior of this rooftop is pretty of the chain, designed with a lot of bronze, a marble floor and a long bar – which is also in marble – it screams posh af.

With it’s great location, and very posh, it attracts a crowd that’s more like, “Hey we live in London and work for the top banks on this continent so you’re nothing compared to us,” but if you just ignore that and go with your friends, it’s a great experience.

Drinks are expensive, £15-18, and the service is decent considering how busy it is any given day of the summer months. They host events throughout the summer which can be found on their website, or social media platforms.

Jin Bo Law on the weekends is epic, and has a less uptight crowd but still mature and rich. Everyone wears their best outfits, so aim to impress or you won’t be invited to stay long. Nice dresses with the red bottoms and suits that make you look like an actor are the best options. The DJ’s spin a mix of top 40, which is typical rooftop music, and people can dance but no one does.

Arriving early on a weekend is a good idea here, as there is usually a line for the lift(elevator) and VIP’s, locals, and people who know people get on it first. There isn’t any cover, and the staff is friendly enough!

All of this being said, it’s a great time to sightsee while getting drunk. You can’t complain about that!

The Nokturnal Group will be back to get a lot of Instagram pics.

H10 Waterloo – London Review

H10 London Waterloo

An average night with nothing crazy except nice views a good company can be had at H10 Waterloo Skybar.

On top of a hotel, as most rooftops are, Waterloo has nothing too special about it, except for its views and calming blue decor.

Waterloo is a great spot to go on the weekends if you’re looking for a place to pre-game or a nice spot to go after work to wind down.

The average drinks are roughly £7-12 and taste great. Music is pretty average with live DJ’s spinning top 40 with a little hip-hop influence and keeps things fun all night. The atmosphere is relaxed, and the ratio stays at a good 50:50 men and women all night.

There isn’t a cover charge or a lineup, and getting in isn’t a challenge unless it’s a packed weekend. If that happens, you only have to wait to get into the elevator which isn’t bad at all.

Overall, a chill spot of pre-drinks, but there are better places in the city.

Magic Hour – NYC Review

Magic Hour

Magic Hour

Ready to find a little bit of a wonderland within the big apple? Head over to Magic Hour for these vibes and you won’t be disappointed.

At the top of the Moxy hotel, the Magic Hour is decorated with very adorable pink bunnies and green walls. Additionally to this, they have different sections inside this rooftop bar/lounge with different vibes. If you’re wanting to get a view of the Empire State Building, one section here was exactly that.

The overall atmosphere is more on the social side and meeting new people here is easy. People, as well as the overall vibe, are open and nice.
This spot is very Instagram worthy, and if you need to get the right photo, don’t worry, many other grammers are here doing the same thing. Hit those angles sis. With that being said, ladies wear a mix of dressy chic and stylish here. Guys dressed in easy, stylish clothing. Everyone seemed to be vibing in some fresh outfits.
What sets this place apart if their carousel seating. It turns slowly while you sit and drink, giving you 360 views of the entire place. Their rooftop is open all year-round but shines in the summer – as does the sun in New York City. They’re quite busy every day of the week, including their happy hours and specially packed on weekends. You’re going to want to know someone here or get on the list. If you don’t know anyone and you’re just visiting for the weekend, anticipate the line and try to get down there early! It’s worth the wait.

Drinks here are about $20 a drink, but you’re sipping quality. They play a mix of EDM and Hip-Hop, and with a vibe like this, it’s hard to not say yes and keep the drinks rolling. Inside their big venue, they offer a mix of food, mini-golf, a carousel, and again, a very Instagram worthy aesthetic.

You can bet your sweet ass Magic Hour will be seeing Mr.Nokturnal again.

Le Bain – NYC Review

Le Bain

Breathing taking views, millennial crowd, and a pool? Yeah, that’s our type. If that sounds like you, too, then give Le Bain a shot for the night.

Le Bain is easily one of the nicest rooftops in NYC. Open during the day, and the evenings, you’re bound to receive some vibrancy from the airy and positive atmosphere. Our suggestion: get there early, because there are always lines on the weekend. The doors get harder as the night goes on! “Split up if you’re a group of guys, and be early” – Mr.Nokturnal himself.

When walking in, there is a mandatory coat check, so don’t be adding that into your outfit as it will have to be removed. The dress code is more chic causal, so ladies, wear an adorable new outfit you’ve been wanting to be seen in public. And as for the gentlemen, you can’t go wrong with a button-up. Don’t get too casual, because then your entry is up to the doorman’s desecration.

The decorations are incredibly beautiful and go along with the trendy crowd it attracts. On the patio, they have an artificial turf with lounge chairs you can sit and relax in. Along with that, the pool as mentioned before is actually open. You are able to sit along or take a dip in the pool, which earns massive brownie points. Forgot your bathing suit? Don’t worry, they have a vending machine that sells them for $80.

You can get bottle service here, but if you’re not with a big group or a special event, then it doesn’t really need to happen. The drinks are around $20 for a cocktail which shouldn’t be surprising anymore considering this is NYC and an amazing spot.

The overall atmosphere is a more intimate light setting, with a good ratio of 60:40 in favor of women. The men here are more classy, and the staff does a very good job making sure it stays that way. The 2-floor club also has some party nights which would be amazing, and you should get to know a promoter at this spot to make sure you can always get in with ease.

You can catch us here, vibin’ all summer 19.

Waterproof – Dallas Review

Waterproof

Probably rated the worst for marketing names out there for clubs, waterproof? What the…
But, should be the judge a club by the name or by what it brings to the table? We decided to give it a chance, and honestly, we’re happy we did.

Waterproof is located at the top of the Statler Hotel, and the views of Downtown Dallas are seriously breathtaking. It gives off that “Miami pool with cabanas and beautiful people” vibe because that’s exactly what it has. Oh, wait.. maybe that’s why they called it waterproof? Still ridiculous either way.

This spot is open during the day and the night – but let’s focus on the nightlife, after all, we are The Nokturnal Group. The staff are very friendly, there is no cover, but the drinks are expensive and with all things considered, it makes sense. This place is great when you go with a dope group of homies, especially if you’re single and ready to mingle.  Ladies, go with the girls and you’re bound to have a good time.

Everyone looked very stylish – and beautiful – but there was no strict dress code. Look put together, and there will be no problem. Music was typical for a rooftop with a lot of mainstream dance-pop remixes, and the ratio was decent!

An overall solid place especially Friday and Saturday nights 9pm-2am and Sunday they’re open till 12am. Definitely, a place to go to for a solid or a chill night.

Bar A – Jersey Shore Review

Bar Anticipation

Looking for a great place to hit up on a Tuesday in the jersey shore? We have the answer: Bar A.

Bar A is famous for it’s beat the clock drink specials Tuesday. It gets so busy that if you show up past 5 pm, there is no way you’re getting in unless you patiently wait in the line for 1-3 hours. I applaud you if you have that level of patience. You also cannot pay off the bouncers here – we tried, and we were generous.

Everyone at this spot dresses really relaxed, and the variety of fashion goes from beach outfits to city and night club vibes. Women are casual in sundresses, jean shorts, flipflops, wedges, etc.. Men were seen in ripped jeans, graphic tees, floral shirts, etc..

This place is massive, and could hold probably 2,000 people and is made up of 5+ bars – each seemingly different vibes. Bar A has a section with cabanas and sand which can be bought for table service. When it rains however, they close the outside portion. Some times in the day they host bar games, but our suggestion is to call ahead, or looking at their website to stay up to date with current events.

The ratio here is solid and is a good place to mingle. This is the place friend groups come together to hang out, and there isn’t really a designated place to dance, but if you can get down anywhere then please do so. The drinks though.. watered down. When ordering shots of tequila, the bartender shook it on ice, and even when asked for warm tequila, they still seemed watered down. The bartenders are really friendly though, so I mean if the drinks are cheap and the staff is friendly.. how much can you complain about the watered down shots?

This is a cash-only bar. It gets crazy and cash is easier to handle. The bar is a typical Shore vibe with EDM music, top 40 and absolutely no hip-hop. The best days to check Bar A out are Tuesday 3pm-close, Sunday 12-8pm, and Friday 7-11pm. Wednesday’s and Saturday’s are aight but not the best. The music isn’t extremely loud, and some people stay inside to hear the live band.

This place is noooooot eco-friendly! Which is a big downer. They use a lot of plastic for their beer(which tastes like the beer you got when you were underage).

This place will see the Nokturnal Group again if we’re all feeling a chill Tuesday night. But, make sure if you come to hang, show up early!

PHD Midtown – NYC Review

PHD Midtown

Checking out Manhattan for a quick summer weekend trip, and wanting those iconic rooftop views and a good time? Perfect, that’s all us at Nokturnal Group want for you.

If you’re ready to be dazzled and inspired to move to New York we have the ultimate location for you. Phd Midtown is owned by the TAO group — so you already know it’s about to blow your mind. This is their second location after having another one located downtown.

PhD is located on the 15th and 16th floor of the Dream Hotel. It is open year round but truly shines in the summer months when they open the rooftop. When you first arrive, you take an elevator to the 15th floor where you have an option to go up a flight of stairs to the 16th floor with the breathtaking views or stay.

If you choose to go up to the 16th-floor rooftop, it is more of a lounge vibe to chat with your friends, catch up on the gossip, and relax after a hard week. However, the lower floor has a completely different vibe. It has more of a club vibe with upbeat music and freedom from hassles — like a constant line of men ready to hit on anything.

This place is definitely more upscale and you should expect higher prices. After all, this is an ambient place right in the heart of the bustling capital of the world. PhD also has an upscale cover charge on weekend, men, you can expect a $75 bar tab or something similar. To avoid such prices, we strongly suggest getting on the guest list or getting there before 12. Ladies, just dress to impress and you’ll be fine.

The age range is roughly 21-mid 30’s, and the fashion is also adequate. Men usually dress in button up or a shirt with a blazer. Seeing men dressed in suits are regular because they head over to have a good time after work. Women dress classy casual for the night time and the high prices ensure that the ratio is 60:40 in favor of women. If you’re looking for a place for a girls night, this place is it!

Bartenders and bouncers are friendly, they constantly make sure you have a stamp — which could get annoying but that’s okay, just order their 10-pound Moscow Mule and you’ll forget all about them. If you and your friends are looking for bottles, they’re available upstairs and downstairs and is a decent place to get it depending on what type of person you are — bottles do enhance the fun here, though.

Best days to go are Friday to Saturday, but their Tuesday party is just as good. From grad students to lawyers, to tourists, this place is definitely somewhere worth going. The rumor wheel says PhD downtown is a better party, but PhD midtown is more women-friendly.

PhD Midtown is overall one of our favorites. The only question that remains is, when are you booking that guest list and getting down to party!

Verdict, a Mr. Nokturnal favorite
